At St James, the Visual Arts program provides a diverse range of opportunities for students to explore and inspire their creativity while teaching students specific skills and processes in a range of mediums.
Visual Arts is taught within a light-filled open space where the students have efficient access to a range of resources and materials to develop their creativity, imagination, skills and techniques within the Visual Arts and broader curriculum.
Each term students will complete a unit of work in Visual Arts that will either complement the Inquiry Learning Units being focused on in the classrooms or a stand alone unit centred a particular art form, era or style.
Within Visual Arts lessons, students will be given the opportunity to:
- Learn about famous artists, past and present, local and international
- Explore art from different times and cultures, especially that of Indigenous Australian artwork
- Use their exploration of artwork to inform and inspire their own creations
- Use a range of materials, including but not limited to: modelling clay, textiles, acrylic and water paints, ink, lino and foam prints, wire and natural materials
- Learn about a range of techniques, including but not limited to: printmaking, collage, sculpture, clay modelling and sewing
- Create artworks for display around the school and for the biannual St James Art Show
